Since my major is English Language Education, the teaching plan I have made is for English subject.  With the guidance of my cooperating teachers, I was able to make two lesson plans each for Gabaldon Central School and F. Buencamino Sr. Integrated School. The base of the material is using module from DepEd and we (My cooperating teachers and I) transformed it into a teaching plan with guidance of K-12 and MATATAG Curriculum.

So what is K-12 and MATATAG Curriculum?

K-12 is a curriculum introduced back in 2012 that:

  • Extend basic education system to 13 years (1 years of Kindergarten, 6 years of elementary, 4 years of junior high school, and 2 years of senior high school.)

  • The goals are to prepare students for tertiary education (college), employment, and entrepreneurship. As well as ensuring global competitiveness by aligning the education with international education standards.

  • Featuring core subjects (mathematics, science, English, and Filipino.), tracks for senior high school (Academic, TVL/ Technical-Vocational-Livelihood, sports, and arts & design.

  • While emphasizing 21st-Century skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.

While MATATAG Curriculum is the refined version of K-12 launched a year ago in 2023 to address challenges and improve educational outcomes such as:

  • Mastery of fundamental skills by focusing on essential competencies

  • Prioritizing foundational skills in early grade levels

  • Ensures cultural and regional relevance in lessons

  • Includes updated textbooks and digital books

In conclusion, K-12 is preparing students for global world not only in Philippine and enhancing basic education. While MATATAG is to address the gaps in the education by ensuring relevant content contextuality, refining competencies, and improving foundational/basics skills.
